Tips for early morning studying
- Getting up. This is one of the hardest parts. Set an alarm (system) and make sure it can wake you up. My personal favourite is having one on my phone to wake me up initially, then right after I’m aware enough to cancel it, another one will start ringing - a ladder away (I sleep on a loft bed). Having your alarm out of your reach is really effective. Aim to get out of bed half an hour to an hour before starting work.
- Getting ready. Wash your face with cold water. As someone who doesn’t sweat at night I don’t shower in the morning, but if you do, you might want to, as it helps you shake off the drowsiness. Eat breakfast, a light meal (toast/bread with…stuff) will suffice (probably) along with some tea or coffee (if you can’t consume caffeine, iced water will do the trick) and some fruit. Dress comfortably (maybe a loose t-shirt with lounge pants? - try to get out of your pyjamas, they’ll tempt you back to bed). If you like that sort of thing, maybe go for a short jog or a dip in the pool?
- Getting going. Make sure your desk is clear, but has everything you need for your morning session on it. You should have prepared a schedule the night before (if you haven’t, making one on the spot should be fine too). Tie your hair back (if applicable), light a scented candle, get work done. Don’t forget to take breaks! I personally believe in having 15 mins of break for every 1hr of work.
